DENOSA Nursing Bursaries for 2019 Closing Date 31 January 2019
BURSARIES AVAILABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING COURSES
ï‚· Short courses & Bridging courses
ï‚· Community nursing science
ï‚· Any post-graduate study at a South African University/Technikon
ï‚· Bursaries for geriatric nursing, community health nursing and psychiatric nursing
 Any clinical Master’s degree programme
ï‚· Short courses & Bridging courses

REQUIREMENTS ELIGIBILITY FOR A BURSARY
ï‚· Applicants must be fully paid-up:
o Members of DENOSA for a minimum of TWO years immediately
preceding the application for a bursary for 2019.
o Members of DENOSA for the year in which application is made
and must remain a paid-up member of DENOSA.
CANDIDATES
ï‚· Must be registered nurses and/or midwives & students.
ï‚· Those who are on study leave with full pay while undertaking a course
are required to mention this when applying for a bursary.
ï‚· Should have undertaken a certain amount of approved post-basic work.
ï‚· Must have completed an application form.
ï‚· Must have been accepted for a University/College/Technikon course
for 2019 academic year.
ï‚· Proof of registration with the educational institution must be attached
to the application form. (Should such proof not be available by the
closing date, arrangements may be made with the Secretary of the
DENOSA Study Fund Committee to provide it at a later stage).
ï‚· Application forms MUST be signed in the presence of a Commissioner
of Oaths and attested by him/her.
POST-BASIC
UNDERGRADUATE
COURSES
ï‚· Applications for courses taken at a South African
University/Technikon will only be considered if the candidate:
o Has successfully passed at least half of the course; and
o On submission of such proof from the University/Technikon (e.g. a
copy of examination results).
POST-BASIC
DIPLOMA
COURSES
 Where the diploma course exceeds one year’s duration, at least half of
the course must have been completed successfully before application
for a bursary will be considered. This stipulation does not apply to
candidates undertaking a one year course.
SHORT COURSES
ï‚· Candidates following short courses may apply for a bursary if the
course is listed with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). If the
course is not listed with the SANC, the applicant must support the
application with a motivation as to how this course will improve
her/his practise as a nurse.
BRIDGING
COURSE
ï‚· Applicants must have completed the first year of study successfully
before an application will be considered.
PROGRESS REPORTS
FREQUENCY
ï‚· Progress Reports MUST be submitted annually by all bursary holders
until completion of the course/degree for which a bursary was
awarded. Closing date for progress reports to be submitted is 14
February each year.

ï‚· Should no progress report be received by the due date of a particular
year, the bursary holder may be requested, without referring back to
the DENOSA Study Fund Committee, to refund the total amount of the
bursary awarded to a candidate.
COURSE CHANGES
ï‚· Should a candidate wish to change his/her course of study and/or training institution, the prior
approval of the DENOSA Study Fund Committee MUST be obtained in order to utilise the
awarded bursary for the new course or training institution
BURSARIES TO BE AWARDED ACCORDING TO MERIT IN 2019
Bursaries for 2019 will be awarded according to merit and need. One page
of your motivation needs to be attached to the application form on how
you are going to assist DENOSA on completion of your studies.
ï‚· All correspondence regarding bursaries must be addressed to the DENOSA Study Fund
committee.
ï‚· Application forms will, under no circumstances be faxed to applicants for completion.
ï‚· Application forms can be downloaded from DENOSA website: www.denosa.org.za
ï‚· Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their applications in April 2019 at the earliest.
