CCS logistics is a division of Oceana group company that provide food industries with cold storage warehouse facilities, the main purpose of CCS logistics is to serve Oceana and other food industries with reliable cold storage warehouse facilities with a reasonable cost. CCS logistic operates and owns some of the most advanced refrigerant warehouse facilities that can store product from the ambient temperature to as low as minus 35 degree and also provide high safety quality for the employees and the environment. CCS logistics provides cooling system and the storage capacitor, therefore the listed equipment plays a big role for CCS logistics business.

CCS logistics storage warehouse facilities are capable of storing 135 000 tons of product, this capability of storage is achieved by the system called Racking, Racking are shelves that provide space where product can be packed nicely. They are mainly two Racking system which is Static Racking and Mobile Racking.
- Static Racking are stationary Shelves pallet storage system gives maximum rigidity and has an integral beam safety-locking tab on the connector. Static Racking often used for heavy load duties.
- Mobile Racking are moving shelves, Mobile Racking turns any storage problem into a storage solution by utilizing all the space and give more space allowance storage. For more understanding of Mobile Racking refer to figure 2 below.
Summary of a cooling system
The refrigerator of CCS logistics is achieved by 4 main equipment which is compressor, evaporator, valve station and condenser. All this equipment serves a purpose of circulating ammonia liquid, the evaporator (coil) is placed inside the podium with two motors coupled in the back of it and the motor extract the heat from whatever product inside the cold room and passing through the evaporator and blow cold air inside the cold rooms. There is a heat exchange taking place during the heat passing through coil, the ammonia liquid circulating inside coil change phase from liquid to gas and heat extracted from the product inside the fridge change to cold air. After all this process took place the suction pressure is required to suck the ammonia gas that has been discharged by the coil, therefore the compressor serve two purposes in the plant firstly it suck the ammonia gas secondly it compresses it to the desired pressure for condensation. Finally, we have condenser, the purpose of the condenser is to cool the ammonia gas and change it to liquid due to as the high stage compression the ammonia pressure is 1000Kpa meaning the temperature also increased. For more understanding to this four equipment refer figure 3, 4, and 5 below.

- MEASURING INSTRUMENTS
- Earth Leakage Tester
- This instrument is used to test if the earth leakage unit is operating correctly or not. An Earth-leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) is a safety device used in electrical installations with high Earth impedance to prevent shock.
- It detects small stray voltages on the metal enclosures of electrical equipment, and interrupts the circuit if a dangerous voltage is detected.
- Earth leakage in uncontrolled amounts can be potentially dangerous.
- It can lead to a rise in voltage, damaging the conducting parts.
- To detect and control ground leakage, technicians rely on a device known as an earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB).
- If a leak is detected, the ELCB automatically cuts of the power supply to the appliance.
- There are two major kinds of ELCBS: current earth leakage circuit breakers and voltage earth leakage circuit breakers.
Insulation Resistance Tester
I have used this measuring instrument to test the motor windings and the balance of windings.
- This instrument is mostly common among people who do power engineering and is also known as the Megger tester.
- As the name suggests it is used the resistance of the windings of both AC and DC motors.
- The instrument is commonly used most on AC motors because DC does not fluctuate.
- This instrument can be used to perform a number of tests on a motor for example insulation resistance between components, insulation resistance between components and earth.
- In order for readings to be accurate and precise the tester must be set of conditions greater than the measured motor or component.
- These preset conditions give results that are conclusive and can help in determining whether the instrument is good for use or not.
- A multi-meter is mostly used to check voltage, resistance and current amongst other things.
- The Multi-meter is an auto range there is no need to change range
- Auto off when not in use to save battery
- In the plant we use the multi-meter to do fault-finding on electrical devices and circuits.
- In some instances when we doing repair on lights we find that the electrical ballast is not working through the use of a multi-meter by checking for conductivity and if it is not working we replace it with a new one.
- Temperature measuring instrument:
- A digital thermometer is temperature sensing instruments that are easily portable, have permanent probes, and a convenient digital display.
- I have use digital thermometer to measure room temperature, body temperature and also underfloor temperature.
- This thermometer it measure the temperature in degrees Celsius
- Another instrument I have come across is the T500K thermometer, which used to detect temperature variations in the room or in fridges.
This type is manufactured by Top Tronic which is a manufacturer of many types of instruments and some engineering tester.
This type of thermometer is of Type K and it ranges from -50 to -1300 degrees Celsius and also offers reading in Farad scales which range from -58 to -2000 degrees Farads. It has an accuracy of +/- 0.03 rdg + 1degrees C.
This type of meter is slowly becoming obsolete as there are other advanced methods to perform the same function.
Clamp-meter
- Clamps are used to measure current.
- Probes measure voltage.
- Having a hinged “clamp” jaw integrated into an electrical meter allows users to simply clamp around wire, cables and other conductors at any point in the electrical system and measure its current, without disconnecting it cable from the supply.
