Established in 2009 when the National Department of Education was split into the Department of Higher Education and Training and the Department of Basic Education, the DBE is in charge of overseeing all schools offering Grade R up to Grade 12 as well as adult literacy programmes.
With its headquarters in Sol Plaatje House, the Minister of Education heads the DBE and its 730 employees. The Department of Basic Education’s goal is to manage and provide support to the nations’ school education system way into the 21st century.
In 2010, the DBE was appropriated a 6, 1662.2 million rand budget from the national budget and enjoyed an 81.3 record metric passing rate in 2019.
Department of Basic Education Internships & Learnerships 2022
In line with achieving its primary goal to develop, support and maintain South Africa’s educational system, the DBE offers various Internship and Learnership opportunities to qualified South African citizens who have yet to participate or gain employment in any developmental programme. In addition, the DBE offers a monthly stipend depending on the candidate’s qualification (minimum R4237, 36 – maximum R7510, 65).
Who should apply?
In order to be considered for the DBE Internship and Learnership Programmes, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
