NSFAS Walk-In Centre To Open Today

After President Cyril Ramaphosa placed South Africa on the Level 1 lockdown, NSFAS has decided to re-open its Walk-in Centre at its Cape Town Offices to assist students with any NSFAS queries they may have.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will be reopening its Walk-in Centre at the Cape Town Offices on Monday, 11 October 2021. This comes after South Africa's move to a Level 1 lockdown.

The Walk-in Centre will be operating between 9am and 4pm and is located at House Cloete, Brodie, Wynberg, Cape Town.

Prospective students as well as current NSFAS students can visit the centre if they have any NSFAS related queries.

NSFAS is a government bursary that is available to underprivileged South African students who are looking to study at a public university or TVET College in the country.

If you're looking to pursue your tertiary studies then you should consider applying for a NSFAS bursary as they provide funding for registration, tuition and allowances. These allowances cover transport, living expenses and learning materials.

The requirements for the NSFAS bursary are as follows:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Can be a SASSA grant recipient.
  • Applicants combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Persons with a disability's combined household income is not more than R600 000 per annum.
  • Applicants who first registered at university before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

NSFAS currently funds 623,386 students at universities and TVET colleges across South Africa.

Once approved for the bursary, the only requirement to stay funded is that students need to pass their modules.

NSFAS will fund students for the entire duration of their course or degree. Most degrees take about 3 to 4 years, whereas medical degrees for example take up to 7 years. However, they will fund an extra year of study should a student fail one year.

NSFAS applications for 2022 have not yet opened and the bursary scheme has not yet announced the date for the opening of applications.

Prospective students are advised to keep monitoring the NSFAS website and social media pages for official updates regarding the opening date of applications.
