IUCN-SA Coastal and Ocean Resilience Internship 2022

The successful candidate will be part of IUCN’s Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office, or ESARO, under the Coastal and Ocean Resilience (COR) internship programme. As a COR intern, the incumbent will be performing the duties and responsibilities:

  • Deliver administrative and technical backstopping  for the COR programme
  • Ensure support with coordinating national/regional operations of the Expert Assessment Group for the Green List for the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region
  • Provide assistance with organizing workshops, trainings, and meetings to promote skills development within the region
  • Attend to information gathering activities for use in reports, official documents, social media platforms, websites, and outreach
  • Maintain accuracy of database for key stakeholders and partners related to coastal and ocean preservation, the OECM mechanism, and the Green List process
  • Perform ad hoc duties as instructed

Who should apply?

Candidates must be able to meet the following minimum eligibility criteria and skills requirements to apply for the internship role:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree related to any of the following::
    • Environmental Science
    • Coastal/Marine Conservation
    • Social Science
    • Marine Protected Areas
    • Sustainable Development
  • Knowledgeable with computers and related software applications
  • Effective written and verbal English communication skills
  • Trustworthy and capable of contributing to educated and responsible decision making by conducting IUCN works in a transparent manner delivering clear guidance to make sure objectives and specific metrics are understood by team members
  • Understands and supports cultural diversity within the workplace and able to work harmoniously with people of different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds
  • Promote the Organization’s objectives and interests in professional manner
  • Able to observe discretion when handling confidential information
  • Sharp eye for detail
